Facial Procedures in Palo Alto
Facial Rejuvenation….Develop Your Personal “Ten Year Plan”
When evaluating patients for a rejuvenating procedure, the facial region is generally considered in sections or zones. Each individual facial zone can be treated independently or in combination with others. The “areas of the face” are the brow, upper and lower eyelids, and the mid-face, jowl and neck regions. The peri-oral zone, around the mouth, is considered a distinct region as well.
A patient may only be interested in a particular area or zone, however it is important to have a comprehensive consultation by Dr. Papalian in order for all facial areas to be evaluated and considered in relationship to each other. During each patient’s consultation, Dr. Papalian will discuss all of the facial zones in detail, giving the patient a realistic understanding of the surgical as well as non-surgical possibilities utilizing the most current techniques. Together with Dr. Papalian, you will develop what he refers to as your personal “Ten Year Plan.” Dr. Papalian’s goal for every patient is to develop a personalized plan that achieves all of their objectives.
Brow Lift in Palo Alto
Brow Lift or Forehead Lift procedures restore a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedures correct drooping brows and improve the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person show signs of aging. The position of the eyebrow in relationship to the orbital rim will determine the need for a Brow Lift. Brow ptosis (or “droop”) can be seen in older patients where the tissues are lax and the brow falls below the bony arch. As well, a lower than desired brow position can be observed in younger patients with a familial predisposition. Patients with brow ptosis commonly appear tired or even “angry”. Often patients indicate that they “need their eyelids lifted”, but are actually describing brow ptosis instead. Correction of brow ptosis, either with an endoscopic minimal incision brow lift or the traditional bicoronal brow lift, will result in a younger, less tired and more alert, but not “surprised” appearance.
As with most cosmetic procedures, there are multiple choices for brow lifting. Discussing your concerns with Dr. Papalian will allow you to have all of the options presented, not just one.
Dr. Papalian performs both the minimal incision endoscopic technique as well as the traditional bicoronal approach to brow lifting. Most patients will benefit from the endoscopic minimal incision approach utilizing the most current fixation techniques. However, older patients with significant skin laxity and ptosis may choose the bicoronal approach, taking advantage of the skin excision benefit and additional lateral tightening. An understanding of which procedure best suits your particular situation will be developed together with Dr. Papalian.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) - Asian Eyelid in Palo Alto
Each year, hundreds of thousands of women and men choose eyelid surgery, or Blepharoplasty, to help restore a more energetic and youthful appearance. Asian eyelid surgery can have both similarities and differences with the “Western” blepharoplasty. The Asian eyelid differs in both appearance and structure from the Western eyelid. While approximately half of all Asian people are born with an upper eyelid crease or “fold”, that crease is different from a Western crease in important ways. The differences in the height, shape, and depth of the Asian fold can range from almost rudimentary to well formed and demonstrate great variability in the appearance of the upper eyelid among people of Asian heritage.
Women and men of Asian heritage often seek eyelid plastic surgery for the same fundamental reason as their Western counterparts, namely, to remove the excess skin and fat from the eyelid region in order to restore a more youthful appearance. Some patients choose to have an “eyelid fold” created or enhanced.
"Double eyelid" surgery is a commonly performed procedure. The options for creating a more Western appearing eyelid, with the prominent crease, vary from patient to patient. The procedures include a traditional incisional blepharoplasty with removal of excess skin and “tacking” of the suture line to create the “double lid” appearance, or a “suture” technique where no skin is excised. As with most cosmetic procedures, there are multiple choices for Asian eyelid rejuvenation. Discussing your concerns with Dr. Papalian will allow you to have all of the options presented, not just one.
Dr. Papalian performs all of the most current Asian blepharoplasty techniques. When discussing Asian eyelid surgery, options such as the traditional incision techniques and the “double suture” type techniques should be considered. An understanding of which procedure or technique best suits your particular situation will be developed together with Dr. Papalian.
